administrator account

The final step in activating Tableau Server is to add the initial administrator account. The administrator will have full access to the server, including the ability to manage users, groups, and projects.

The server must be running when creating the initial administrative user.

If you have configured the Tableau Server identity store to use LDAP or Active Directory, the specified initial administrative user must be an account in the directory. The initial administrative user is usually different from the user account on the Tableau Server computer used to run tsm.

However, these accounts can be the same as those configured for the Tableau Server Identity Store to use Active Directory, and the initial administrative user is a member of the local Administrator group on the Tableau Server computer.

Prerequisites

Before continuing with the procedures in this topic, complete the following prerequisites as described in Installing and configuring Tableau Server :

Install TSM

Activate and register Tableau Server

Configure Home Node Settings

Use the web user interface
Use tabcmd CLI
When you complete Tableau Server startup, the installation program displays a page for creating the Tableau Server administrator.

If you have set up a local identity store, specify a name and password you want to use.

If you configured an LDAP or Active Directory identity store during installation, you must specify a directory member user account.

If the installation is remote, you must log in to the TSM of the physical computer where Tableau Server is being installed, or you can remotely access the computer and run the tabcmd initial user command from a shell.
